Australian Age Championships – Adelaide April 2011

A 15 strong National Age team headed to Adelaide to a brand new aquatic centre for the Australian Age Championships and Adelaide turned on its’ best Autumn weather.  Plenty of P.B.’s including awesome swims from our 4 first timers; Olivia Derndorfer, Brad Collins, Kiran Jasinghe and Andrew Kawai.
Our medallists were Jordan Chivers, Sian Whittaker, Joel Alati, 18/U boys 4x100 free relay(Joel Alati, Andrew Read, Remy Harvey, Ray Mak) and 18/U Boys medley (Andrew Read, Jordan Chivers, Tom Newton Joel Alati).  The club finished 6th ranked Victorian club!

It is an amazing week full of highs and lows for all, but once again our club stood out as being a “family” on pool deck rather than just a swim club.  Nothing made any of us more proud than the way all swimmers cheered and supported each other from behind the blocks whether it was a good swim or not.

I would personally like to say a huge thank you to the coaches Carl, Margie and Amberley and fellow manager, Daryn who were up and off to the pool at about 7.30 each day and were lucky to have finished and had dinner by 8.30pm each evening. To our amazing personal Masterchef, Julie, one of the highlights of the day was the bus trips back to the hotel listening to the swimmers trying to guess what wondrous feast was waiting for us!  Thank you!!!!!!!!!

To the parents who attended, thank you for the repeated offers for help the entire week.  And finally to the swimmers – you are a wonderful group who represent this club with pride and are a pleasure to work with.

Victorian Top 10 Age rankings
Congratulations to the following swimmers who have ranked in the top 10 in Victoria at the end of the 2010/2011 Long Course season  - this is  approximately 23% of our registered swimmers.  Most swimmers are ranked in more than one event and in the 17/18 boys 50 free, Tritons have 5 swimmers out of the top 10!  A great effort for a club the size of ours!!

National Age Championships Team grows!!

We now have 4 new National Age qualifiers at the club who will join the National swim team heading to Adelaide at the end of April 2011.

Olivia Derndorfer, Brad Collins, Kiran Jasinghe and Andrew Kawai all swam below the qualifying times in their respective strokes at the State Age Championships.
Well done and good luck and have fun competing in Adelaide.

State Age and Open Championships

CA Tritons again took a large State team to the State Age and Open Championships held in December 2010 and early January 2011.  For a lot of our younger swimmers it was their first time to a State competition and it can be very daunting.  All swimmers swam their best with loads of PB’s swum.  Congratulations to the following finalists and medallists.

State finalists:

Olivia Derndorfer, Andrew Kawai, Kiran Jasinghe, Remy Harvey, Rebecca Schwarz, Nic Schwarz, Jeff Fu, Raymond Mak, Sian Whittaker, Olivia Knowles, Des Cairns, Katelyn Van Der End, Morgan Khan, Rosemary Addison, Tom Newton, Al Cooper, Brad Collins, Jordan Chivers, Andrew Read, Joel Alati.

State Medallists:

Bronze:            Olivia Derndorfer, Sian Whittaker, Andrew Kawai, Tom Newton, Jordan Chivers

Silver:              Andrew Kawai, Andrew Read, Olivia Derndorfer (2)

Gold:                Jordan Chivers (2), Sian Whittaker

Relays:
One of the clubs biggest investments each year are club relays, especially at the State Age Championships. The club had many relays entered across the meet with many placing in the Top 10. Albeit solid in the senior age groups the 14/u and 16/u relays do require improvement. The 12/u female relays show a strong group of swimmers coming through. Relays provide the best environment for team camaraderie and friendships to blossom. Solid teams are built of solid relays and solid groups amongst the program. We look forward to relays continuing to build the CA Tritons team across the years.
